If you want to explore Ecuador’s charming cities and towns and its fascinating landscapes and wildlife without having to plan all the details of accommodations, transport and excursions yourself, consider an all-inclusive vacation. Professional tour companies take care of all the details for you, and many offer fully customizable itineraries to suit all your preferences. Some focus on wildlife and outdoor adventures, some on cultural and historic attractions, and many combine destinations on mainland Ecuador with cruises around the Galapagos Island.
Wilderness Travel’s Highlands and Islands
Wilderness Travel offers a 14-day vacation beginning and ending in Ecuador’s capital, Quito. The tour combines an eight-day yacht cruise around the Galapagos Islands with four nights in Quito and two nights in Hacienda Zuleta, a rural ranch in the Ecuadorian highlands. After a day exploring the Old Town of Quito independently, embark on the Galapagos cruise. Hike on the islands of North Seymour, Santa Cruz, Espanola and Bartolomé, see lava lizards and marine iguanas, snorkel with Galapagos penguins, marbled rays and sea turtles and explore mangroves and volcanic craters on small-boat trips. The visit to the Darwin Research Station on Santa Cruz, followed by a hike to the highlands to see Galapago tortoises in the wild, is a major highlight. After returning to the mainland you’ll head to Hacienda Zuleta, which serves as a base for visiting a condor rehabilitation center and the mountain town of Otavalo with its famous market. The hikes during this vacation are reasonably gentle and range from two to three hours. All meals except for four dinners and one lunch are included, along with all your accommodations and transportation in Ecuador.
